About This Campaign
Since 2012, almost 800,000 immigrant youth (known as Dreamers) have been able to go to school, provide for their families and avoid deportation through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Most of these Dreamers were 10 years old or younger when they were brought here through no fault of their own and have only known a life living in the U.S.. DACA allowed them to grow up out of the shadows, obtain drivers licenses, enroll in college, work legally and pay taxes. In 2017, the Trump Administration suspended DACA and since then 122 Dreamers a day have lost their protections - losing jobs, access to college and facing the daily threat of deportation. The DREAM Act would provide a pathway to a permanent solution for Dreamers who meet certain qualifications.
Is This An LGBTQ+ Justice Issue?
It is estimated that almost 40,000 Dreamers identify as LGBTQ+. For many of them, deportation would mean being sent to countries without strong civil rights protections and / or a history of violence towards LGBTQ+ people. In addition, organizations helping Dreamers have been strong allies for LGBTQ+ rights here in the U.S. and it is important that all of us stand with them today.
