Join our Core Team & Be A HERO!
"There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives." - Audre Lourde
Our CORE Team volunteers make calls from home about once a week* for the LGBTQ+ Justice campaigns where they are most needed across the country - from protecting transgender rights to fighting anti-LGBTQ+ Supreme Court nominees. We call these volunteers HERO's because they (and hopefully soon you!) show up weekly* for Justice and to change people's lives -- most of whom they'll never meet. Like NEAT, HERO's know real LGBTQ+ Justice requires fighting for the multiple issues that intersect and affect our community. And we think all that is pretty heroic.
Try it out. See how it goes. And if you enjoy it, join our team of HERO's nationwide who call from home about once a week for LGBTQ+ Justice on a schedule that works for them.
*And of course, always ok to take occasional longer breaks for work, school, life, etc.

Core Team HERO's
Matt, MEFav. Super Hero / Power:
Daredevil, because I like that he fights injustice in the courts, as a lawyer, by day and fights it his own way at night! Diverse tactics are important! Why I Volunteer: I'm queer and I see far too much injustice against LGBTQ people. It's important to me to use my skills to make a difference in a time when so many people are struggling. |
Sara, MAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Rogue / Teleportation Why I Volunteer: As a white cis-gendered queer middle class woman living in in the first state in the country to legalize marriage equality, I'm on the privileged end of the LGBTQ community. I volunteer to help protect those who because of the intersection of their LGBTQ identity and other marginalized identities are in more danger. |
Lisa, CAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Telekinesis Why I Volunteer: I see the effects of transphobia on the people I love, and I want to stop it. |
Karen, PAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Wonder Woman / Invisibility Why I Volunteer: As the mother of a tween, I'm concerned about healthcare access and my child's right to be educated free from bullying, teasing, taunting or harassment - for sexual/gender or ANY issues. NEAT let's us stand together during these trying times... I love NEAT! |
Kim, OHFav. Super Hero / Power:
Nightwing Why I Volunteer: For all the transgender people I know in Toledo and my stepchild who is transgender. |
Hannah, CAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Beyoncé (she counts, right?) Why I Volunteer: For my friends |
Jane, OHFav. Super Hero / Power:
Black Widow Why I Volunteer: After the unthinkable happened in Nov. '16, NEAT provides me with the opportunity to talk to individuals who also feel strongly about equality, so that together, we can continue to protect and start to heal. |
Preston, FLFav. Super Hero / Power:
Teleportation Why I Volunteer: I want to help increase decency and openness. |
Victor, CAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Kazuto Kirito Krideyia Why I Volunteer: I volunteer with NEAT cause I want to help those that cannot help themselves and make a difference for those those that are less fortunate than me. |
Rich, NYFav. Super Hero / Power:
Catching bigots off-guard in moments of weakness Why I Volunteer: Starting with the marriage movement in NY, I got addicted to the concrete, measurable positive effect merely 1 hour of volunteering can have on an issue in a particular time or place. |
Robert, NYFav. Super Hero / Power:
Superman, fighting for truth and justice, and the ability to combat bigotry Why I Volunteer: To help advance rights for everyone. The NEAT campaigns work to achieve specific objectives. Very satisfying when the team realizes positive results in this direction. |
Radha, NJFav. Super Hero / Power:
Professor X in X-Men and the ability to control minds Why I Volunteer: So that I can help realize my dream of having everyone being treated without discrimination and with respect. |
Joe, NYFav. Super Hero / Power:
Coming soon! Why I Volunteer: Coming soon! |
Sheila, MOFav. Super Hero / Power:
The ability to be in two places at once! Why I Volunteer: To help achieve equality and to encourage people that their voices matter. |
Marie, WAFav. Super Hero / Power:
The Unknown Volunteer Why I Volunteer: Because NEAT has such well-designed and effective campaigns |
Jeff, NJFav. Super Hero / Power:
Superman and empathy Why I Volunteer: Equality matters to me. If I can offer even only a few hours per week that may potentially change the of lives marginalized people, then my time given to NEAT is well worth it. |
Andrew, NYFav. Super Hero / Power:
Shadowcat from X-Men because she can walk through walls. If I could do that I wouldn't always bump into them. Why I Volunteer: It's so much fun. All the time I get to meet awesome new volunteers from across the country and also talk with voters from all over, many of who are awesome too and happily take action. I genuinely like phone banking, for those same reasons, but it is also very measurable and you feel like you are really helping others. |
Jess, MAFav. Super Hero / Power:
Organizing, optimizing and brainstorming! Why I Volunteer: I've spent a fair bit of my adult life skating by on my privilege of tax bracket and skin color. When my spouse of (then) 17 years started her transition, I couldn't remain passive. And none of us are free while so many are being threatened, deported, killed, & treated as less than. It's 2017, and we can and must do better. So let's do it. Thank you, NEAT, for collecting this rag-tag group of heroes. It's an honor to be counted among you. |
Ella, FLFav. Super Hero / Power:
Wonder Woman to fight for righteousness against evil. Why I Volunteer: I am a transgender, I had a great support from this great community and I want to give back. Another reason is that sometimes you have great conversations with the people you are calling. I really enjoy! |
Michael, NJFav. Super Hero / Power:
My grandmother Why I Volunteer: I'm tired of fighting to be equal and I've reached a point where we all need to do something that matters! |
Jay, D.C.Fav. Super Hero / Power:
I've always wanted to be able to fly. Why I Volunteer: I work with a national trans advocacy organization, and NEAT is a great way for me to get more involved at the state and local levels. |
Melissa, ILFav. Super Hero / Power:
Stopping time. Why I Volunteer: I'm tired of being silent. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. This could be you! |
Angelika, TXFav. Super Hero / Power:
Korra from The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Astral Projection, Healing and Spirit Bending. Why I Volunteer: I wanted to stand up for those who are disenfranchised and/or left out. I want to make a difference, however small, because I believe everyone has the right to be happy, joyous and free. |
Jolie, ILFav. Super Hero / Power:
Shapeshifting! Why I Volunteer: As a young person growing up in a new era of hate and fear, I've discovered the power that conversation has to increase acknowledgement of humanity and empathy for our fellow countrymen. By phone banking, I hope to gain a greater connection with people in my country through exchanging perspectives. Hopefully, I'll change some minds, too. |
Cathy, OHFav. Super Hero / Power:
I think kindness is a super power. And I want to be SuperPerson so I can fly. Why I Volunteer: Because it's our job to protect children - and I mean all of them, every single one. |
Be the next hero!Fav. Super Hero / Power:
This could be you! Why I Volunteer: This could be you! |
